Summary

Orson Scott Card's science fiction classic Ender's Game is the winner of the 1985 Nebula Award for Best Novel and the 1986 Hugo Award for Best Novel。

In order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race's next attack, government agencies breed child geniuses and train them as soldiers。 A brilliant young boy, Andrew Ender Wiggin lives with his kind but distant parents, his sadistic brother Peter, and the person he loves more than anyone else, his sister Valentine。 Peter and Valentine were candidates for the soldier-training program but didn't make the cut--young Ender is the Wiggin drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training。

Ender's skills make him a leader in school and respected in the Battle Room, where children play at mock battles in zero gravity。 Yet growing up in an artificial community of young soldiers Ender suffers greatly from isolation, rivalry from his peers, pressure from the adult teachers, and an unsettling fear of the alien invaders。 His psychological battles include loneliness, fear that he is becoming like the cruel brother he remembers, and fanning the flames of devotion to his beloved sister。

Is Ender the general Earth needs? But Ender is not the only result of the genetic experiments。 The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long。 Ender's two older siblings are every bit as unusual as he is, but in very different ways。 Between the three of them lie the abilities to remake a world。 If, that is, the world survives。

I haven't read this since junior high, so I didn't remember it super well。 I knew it was a sad story about a child who is forced to battle his peers so he'll hopefully become a strong military leader。 Ender is a genius and a brilliant strategist, but he's young and goes through a lot of horrors。 He's isolated, bullied, beaten, and terrorized by the school and military officials。 It's enough to make you cry, no kid should go through that。 It is compelling, watching Ender beat the other kids even I haven't read this since junior high, so I didn't remember it super well。 I knew it was a sad story about a child who is forced to battle his peers so he'll hopefully become a strong military leader。 Ender is a genius and a brilliant strategist, but he's young and goes through a lot of horrors。 He's isolated, bullied, beaten, and terrorized by the school and military officials。 It's enough to make you cry, no kid should go through that。 It is compelling, watching Ender beat the other kids even when he's younger and newer。 He's so smart and takes risks that others wouldn't think to。 Ender truly is like no one else, his brain sees things and makes connections that are crazy。 The older he gets, the more formidable he is in battle。 There's also a side plot about Ender's siblings Peter and Valentine。 I didn't so much care about their parts, Peter is a psychopath and Valentine is too soft hearted。 They're also incredibly intelligent and their writing has long lasting effects on Earth, it's just not as exciting。 I know there are several more books and maybe I'll continue if only to hopefully see Ender get a happier ending。 。。。more

Enders Game is a fascinating novel that blends reality and science fiction together。 Andrew "Ender" Wiggin thought that the whole "War simulation" was just a computer Game but he comes to find out that it is something much more than that。 Ender finds out that the "simulation" was actually real by the end of the book and then realized that he just wiped out an entire species, he was extremely mad at this and yelled at Colonel "Graff" for tricking him into thinking that the "Game" was just a simul Enders Game is a fascinating novel that blends reality and science fiction together。 Andrew "Ender" Wiggin thought that the whole "War simulation" was just a computer Game but he comes to find out that it is something much more than that。 Ender finds out that the "simulation" was actually real by the end of the book and then realized that he just wiped out an entire species, he was extremely mad at this and yelled at Colonel "Graff" for tricking him into thinking that the "Game" was just a simulation。 Ender is portrayed like many young adults in this day and age, especially within the concept of bullying, the main conflict in this story was Enders bully "Bonzo Madrid" which Ender ended up killing on accident by defending himself。 Enders two older siblings (Valentine and Peter) are just as unusual as he is, however in totally different ways。 While Peter was excessively violent, Valentine practically comes up short on the capacity for violence through and through。 Neither of them were found appropriate for the Military's purpose。 In any case, they are driven by their jealousy of Ender。 。。。more

This was a really intense book! It was unique and captivating, and I didn’t see a few of the plot twists coming! The book only gets docked a star because it’s a bit misogynistic and i think the children are way too young for how they act, even though they’re “geniuses。” Still a very interesting read that I enjoyed a lot。 Definitely made me think。

One。 Of my most favorite books I read in school! I loved the epic all of nothing feel that it quickly builds into and then the twist later on makes you go oh man really this is just insane! But makes you think have we done stuff like this in real life? In our own wars? It’s scary to think that this is a possibility。 The character Ender is a loner not sure of his abilities but quickly grows out of this to a strong and amazing leader who isn’t afraid I adapt。 To grow

Second readthrough of this amazing sci fi book and omg I noticed so many more things。 How the people in charge treat Ender is just horrible and I didnt notice how bad it was on the first go。

This is a good book。 It really is。 I imagine that listening to it (which is what I did) is a very different experience than reading it。 The main narrator's voice was super catchy and velvety, but sometimes his baritone was so deep I had to rewind and crank the volume to catch the few words I missed。 And I couldn't stand the female narrator's voice most of the time。 I considered checking the book out from the library just to read those sections so I wouldn't have to bear her interpretation and an This is a good book。 It really is。 I imagine that listening to it (which is what I did) is a very different experience than reading it。 The main narrator's voice was super catchy and velvety, but sometimes his baritone was so deep I had to rewind and crank the volume to catch the few words I missed。 And I couldn't stand the female narrator's voice most of the time。 I considered checking the book out from the library just to read those sections so I wouldn't have to bear her interpretation and annoying tone。But all that aside, focusing on the story, it made me feel a broad range of emotions, including a lot of sympathy and respect for Ender。 I wonder if I would've gotten more fully lost in their world if I'd read the book, re-reading and looking up words since I wouldn't have been driving。 I just don't have the time。 I had myself keep a healthy distance because losing myself in books isn't always a luxury I can afford these days。 I get in too deep and it's hard to think of anything else。 But I was really able to picture clearly most of what the author described, especially the battles at the Battle School。 Partway through the book, I also read some things about the author that made me not want to continue the series, but I still wanted to finish the book。 Let's just say he's a talented author and that's about it。 Remember, the enemy gate is down。 。。。more

I wish Petra had more "book time" though。 I wanted to see more of her - I mean, she's the only girl so。 Also, I found it weird that Petra - the only girl - was the first one to "BrEaK" during their simulator practice。 Like, why Petra? Why not Dink? Or Bean? Or even Alai? Why the girl? I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into this but I still find it weird。I wasn't expecting the plot twists in the chapter Ender's Teacher。 Like, wow! That was my favourite chapter in the whole book。 It was so amazing and exhilarating。 I feel like that should've been the last chapter。 I mean, what even was the last chapter? After all the excitement and action in the chapter before, Speaker for the Dead (the chapter, not the next book) felt bland and ultimately fell flat。 It's the only reason why I rated this book 4。7/5。 If it had ended at the chapter before, I would've given it 5 stars。 No hesitation。🚨SPOILER ALERT:🚨Can I just say how totally unprepared I was for the plot twists。 Like, I had no idea that Ender killed Bonzo!!! (Not that he didn't deserve it - because he totally did) I was sooo not expecting it。 And while I was trying to fully grasp that fact - BAM! - turns out, ENDER ALSO KILLED STILSON 😱 I enjoyed it though 😌🚨SPOILER ALERT OVER🚨I enjoyed this book so so much。 I really did love all of it - except for the last chapter。 There's action, there's tactics, there's war, there's Ender, and along with him his thinking。 I loved reading about Ender's thought process。 It was fascinating。 I just want more battles。 That was one of my favourite parts。 I finished this and watched the movie adaptation yesterday。 And can I just say that the book is a thousand times better than the movie。 The casting was great, actually, but the movie itself wasn't。 They cut out a lot of stuff - a lot of my favourite stuff。 It's understandable, but they could've made it a two part movie or even a series。 If you watch the movie without reading the book, it doesn't have the same effect。 It's not the same。 You wouldn't really understand how important Ender really is, or the progress that his army made, or even the battles! It just wouldn't make a whole lot of sense。 So I advise you to read the book first。 By the way, there was a lot more language than I expected, for some reason 😅 But it doesn't matter, really。 Just a warning, for those of you who like to know about that stuff。 Giving this book my highest recommendation! 。。。more

Exasperatingly repetitive and predictable for the most part。 The grating cast of characters makes it hard to care for the plot, except for the ocasional support character managing to shine through for a couple of pages。 The ebook version is actually quite good, except for all the parts from Valentine's POV, whose voice actress has an annoying delivery。 The book is somewhat redeemed by a satisfying ending。 Exasperatingly repetitive and predictable for the most part。 The grating cast of characters makes it hard to care for the plot, except for the ocasional support character managing to shine through for a couple of pages。 The ebook version is actually quite good, except for all the parts from Valentine's POV, whose voice actress has an annoying delivery。 The book is somewhat redeemed by a satisfying ending。 。。。more

A great book。 I loved following Ender's story - it was intriguing to see the progression of a genius。 I have perhaps only two things to criticize:1。 I didn't find the chapters about Valentine and Peter particularly interesting。2。 The kinds could have been perhaps at least a little older; as it stands, it can be hard at times to believe that such young kinds would do these things。 A great book。 I loved following Ender's story - it was intriguing to see the progression of a genius。 I have perhaps only two things to criticize:1。 I didn't find the chapters about Valentine and Peter particularly interesting。2。 The kinds could have been perhaps at least a little older; as it stands, it can be hard at times to believe that such young kinds would do these things。 。。。more
